All You Need to Know About the Rc Lipo Batteries

When looking for batteries that can provide you with long run times and high power, LiPo batteries are the ideal ones. Also known as lithium polymer, these types of batteries have gained a lot of popularity in the radio controlled industry over the last few years precisely because of their power and longevity.

RC batteries

One of the main benefits of RC batteries LiPo is that they are pretty lightweight and can be made almost in any size and shape. Thanks to the higher capacity, these types of batteries can hold much more power and have higher discharge rates which means that they pack more punch. Said in simpler words, these types of batteries have extremely high discharge rates to power the most demanding electric RC aircraft and vehicles. Additionally, When it comes to looking for RC batteries LiPo has proven to have larger capacities, hence, holding lots of energy small package.

According to specialists, almost every RC LiPo battery cell is packed in a flexible plastic pouch, also known as pouch cell which plays a major role for building multi-celled battery packs. For the light weight of these batteries contributes the plastic pouch which is the reason for their use in aircraft and other types of RC vehicle models.

The way people define a battery is through a rating system which helps us determine which type of battery pack is better and suitable for the need. There are three main ratings (things) you need to know before buying a LiPo battery – discharge rating (C), capacity and voltage (V).

Voltage (V) – The voltage of a battery pack can determine how fast your vehicle is going to go as the voltage can directly influence the RPM of the electric motor.

Capacity – The capacity of a battery shows how much power the battery can hold which means that the bigger the capacity, the bigger the weight and size of the battery.

Discharge Rating (C ) – The discharge rating is a measure of how fast the battery can be discharged without harming the overall battery life. The complicated thing about this indicator is that it is not a stand-alone number, as it requires you to know the capacity of the battery in order to figure out the safe amp draw.

The main cons of these types of batteries is that they have a shorter lifespan about 150 – 250 cycles. Another important thing to know is that its sensitive energy can lead to a fire in case the battery gets punctured. It also needs special care for storage, charging and discharging.
